Why Join ISES?

You Want In On This

Many of the ISES Cleveland Board members spent January 14th in Chicago before The Special Event learning ways to make our ISES Chapters even better. We asked attendees to say, in their own words, why you should join ISES. Here’s what they had to say:

The event industry is always evolving. ISES gives you the opportunity to stay on top of the trends and stay connected. -Rachel Fuller

Have several elevator speeches so that you can choose the right one that makes sense for the person you’re talking to.- Shannon Harris

ISES is a two way commitment that results in the speed of trust. Everyone is so willing to share, and everyone comes with an open minds Their preverbal “guard is down”, allowing the sharing ideas to happen faster, and more freely. – Matt Radicelli

Everyone should belong to a professional organization.  ISES is the perfect choice for any event pro!  Everyone working together to promote this amazing industry within each of our communities.  Building lasting relationships to help us grow, personally and professionally! - Vince Iannaggi

ISES is a great organization to expand your business network, promote creative thinking, and serve as a mechanism to help build trust and teamwork with other piers in the event industry.  Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and through a cooperative effort, everyone benefits.  Not only will your strengths help other ISES members but ISES is the perfect organization to work on your weaknesses.  ISES embraces the sharing of knowledge and through active participation personal and professional growth is sure to follow.  - Dale McDonald

ISES is one of the only event industry organizations that is truly global. In this day and age of uber-connectivity, having those global resources are becoming more and more prevalent and important” – Shannon Harris

ISES membership is the best way to grow your business through strength of diversity of ideas . - Deb Smythe Hermann

Becoming a committee or board member is a great way to hone your leadership skills. -Scott Pickel

ISES’s commitment to continuing the organizations position to remain relevant in the global market is amazingly valuable.  Wherever your events career may take you logistically, there are ISES members to collaborate with – either in person or or via the ISES Community. - Maureen Patterson

ISES embraces ALL aspects of the creative event industry which makes us standout from other professional societies.  - Laura Hoffman

Remember the Cool Kids Table at School? They were the best looking, the funniest, and had the best sneakers. ISES Cleveland is inviting you to the cool kids table. Hang with the most creative, passionate, and committed professionals in the event industry. Also, our sneakers are pretty cool too. – Nick Borelli

Why I’m an ISES Member – Shannon Harris

ISES Membership Has It’s Benefits

ises event industry
When I’m at the monthly ISES events, people say to me “What do you like about being a member?” or “What do you feel the best benefit is?”.  Most of the time, when this topic is brought up, I happen to be also in a group conversation with some other great people I’ve met and developed relationships with due to my involvement with ISES.  So, when asked these questions, I simply point to the other people that are in our little discussion group at the time and say “I get to see these faces once a month”.
That  interaction is invaluable.  It’s hard to put into words the benefit of developing real friendships and connections with people who know what you’re going through in this industry in our little C-Town.  People who can offer real solutions to any questions or problems that you may be facing.  People who truly “get it” and understand the challenges great and small that you face everyday.  We share stories, laugh, offer advice, discuss the direction our fair city is going and how exciting it is.  We’re Clevelanders which means, we’re tough, loyal, hard-working, and all while representing a warm mid-west spirit.  The city is on the rise and ISES Cleveland is growing right along with it!

Summer is Closed. Bring on Fall!

Whew…another busy summer is in the books!

I am excited to see what the rest of the year will bring to our chapter and beyond… First, I want to congratulate the ISES Midwest Region on winning The ISES Espirit Award for Region of the Year. Also, Congrats to our Immediate Past President Deb Hermann on her ISES Esprit Award Win for Best Event with a Legacy for the 8th Annual Into the Light Walk for Suicide Prevention.

So many great people and events are happening here. The midwest (especially Cleveland) is truly where it’s at! We had a great time in August at the Cleveland Airport Marriott where we gathered together for an indoor cookout (gotta love Cleveland weather). The board was officially sworn in and I gave a brief overview of the year. Special thanks to our sponsors Event Source, Rock The House, and the Cleveland Airport Marriott for their donations to our event. It was gorgeous and a great way to network with our membership and guests.

September’s event at The Hilton Garden Inn was very beneficial with a panel discussion on Getting Back to Basics. I picked up a few things that I brought back with me including a God Box! I had one before but haven’t created one since I started my new position. Thank you to Neil Leeson Floral, Be Seated, Hughies, and The Hilton Garden Inn for their sponsorship for this event. I want to give a huge shoutout to my board for really rocking it out so far this year.

We have so many things planned for the year and they are really churning it out. You guys inspire me to do the very best I can. The Membership Committee will be holding a Member Orientation on September 27th from 8:30 – 9:30 am at Event Source. I encourage members new and old to stop by and say hello. Vince will be navigating through the ISES website and will be explaining all of the great benefits that come with your membership.

I hope to see you on October 10th at our Speed Networking event at the Rainforest. This was one of our most popular events last year! Remember to bring your business cards or any information on your business for our Brag Table. This is another great idea that came from our planning session. Many members are utilizing this to advertise what their business offers, open houses, and upcoming events. If you haven’t joined a committee, we are still looking for volunteers. Feel free to contact me or anyone on the board to get more involved in our chapter. Remember that you will get out what you put into your membership!

Board Retreat for ISES Cleveland

The New Board Plots 2012/2013

Once a year the new Cleveland ISES board comes together for an entire day to discuss the upcoming year. This is the first time this group came together formally and it’s a very important time for the chapter. The discussion is as varied as budget, upcoming events, membership, communication, and the overall goals for the chapter. The board would like to extend a special thanks to the Downtown Cleveland Marriott at Key Center for providing an exceptional lunch as well as being very gracious hosts. This year looks to be a record breaking year because of a combination of new blood and seasoned veterans.

Make sure you meet our new board in person this August at our Outdoor Cookout at the Airport Marriot Hotel. Register here.

Cooking Throw-down Recap – January 2012

Event Pros Dish It Out

ISES Cleveland creates the most unique networking experiences for event professionals in the region. This event was a once in a life time experience. Attendees had the opportunity to pair into teams of four to create dishes to compete against other teams all evening. Four courses were created by teams who laughed and worked together at our gracious host’s facility: The Chubby Cook. Scott, owner of The Chubby Cook, and his team mentored the groups as they prepared some really tasty dishes for the judges to try. Judges Dale McDonald (Digital Photogaphy by Dale), Scott Pickle (Everything Tented), and Nick Borelli (Rock The House Entertainment Group) had a tough time deciding the best dishes amongst a remarkable talented group of chefs. In short, this was a rare opportunity for Cleveland Event Professionals to determine who are the Iron Chefs and who is Chopped! Special thanks to Digital Photos by Dale for event photography as well as Rock The House Entertainment for putting together a event recap video. Thank You to our sponsors:
